Alan S. Paris was born in 1964. When not sailing he works in the hospitality industry, most recently as General Manager at Ariel Sands. Paris is a Bermudian. He, his wife, Becky and son, Tucker are residents of St. Georges, Bermuda.
As with many Bermudians he learned to sail as a child at Camp Juniper, at the age of 9, in small 12-foot Cadet boats.
Paris made his first offshore sail in 1990, sailing between St. Augustine, Florida and St. Georges, Bermuda. ( 925 nm ) Followed by a return delivery in 1991 after the Marion to Bermuda Race, in which the yacht he sailed on was caught in a developing Tropical Storm whilst in the Gulf Stream.
During 1991 1993 seasons, Paris was active in J24 One Design racing culminating with a 2nd place overall for the 1993 nine month racing season. During that year he circumnavigated Bermuda in a J24, alone. A journey that took 12 hours.

Paris competed in Learning to fly in the 1995 Bermuda One Two, achieving overall first place in Class II for combined placing in both the Singlehanded and Double handed legs, including 2nd overall for all yachts entered in the Singlehanded leg.
