Captain's Log

September 24, 2002

Greetings from BTC Velocity,

So I was down below reading a book, my second in 3 days, and I heard a noise from a bird, came up on deck and there was a bird ( a Tern I think ) saying " get over you blocking the way. Then he moved into the passing lane and paddled on by " Very humiliating........

There one of two options here. I can go completely nuts waiting for wind, or try and find some humor in the situation. I am the humor option right now, but its close......

This is day 2 of effectively no wind. From noon yesterday and until noon today I have gone a total of 57 nm closer to Torbay. This is the second worst daily mileage I have ever had. When was the worst you ask ?? well that was yesterday when the number was 52 nm closer to Torbay.

When you can not move, it is hard to run away from the high which has kept expanding and getting stronger. 1034 mb where we are right now and yesterday at noon it was 1032 mb. There is more bad news in that I don't see any change for about 24 - 36 more hours. This is unimaginable torture. What could be 3 1/2 days with no wind and no way out. I have been making all sorts of promises to the weather gods by they are unimpressed. There is a big ' H ' for High pressure stamped firmly on my boat and we are pinned.
