Captain's Log

October 7, 2002

Hello all,

In Bermuda we have an expression which sums up how a person feels when they are perhaps frustrated, tired, feeling put upon or generally a little down.....we just say " it's not easy " and everyone knows what you mean.

Well that's how I feel right now. " Its not easy " BTC Velocity does not deserve to be in this spot right now, not that anyone ever said sailing was fair !! The time is Saturday Night 5th October at 8:15 GMT and there is a wind speed of 0.5 kts and we are making 1.0 kts. ( must be a little current ) I am watching the ETA for Torbay get further and further away and the time to see family, friends and make repairs getting shorter and shorter. ( luckily very few repairs needed, yet )

I have received weather forecasts from 2 different sources. MasSea and Raymarine and they both disagree with what the conditions are and they are both WRONG for what I have experienced since yesterday at 12 noon when the wind went light !!

The dice were rolled when Kojiro and I got stuck in a 3 day High pressure system on days 7 through 10 that grew out of its forecast location and size and since then its been catch up. Now another system is blocking our way to Torbay and there is nothing we can do about it.

I ran out of water in the tanks yesterday. Oops. I also have three 1 1/2 liter water bottles left, one 1 liter of Gatorade and then its time to pull from my ' grab bag ' supplies that would be used in the event I have to take to a life raft. Plenty of food though.

So for both Kojiro who is approx 20 miles ahead and myself, think wind pleeeeeeeeeeeeeese
