Captain's Log
October 18, 2002
Hello all,
Well I am 13 nm nne of Cape Finisterre.
43.03.39 N
09.28.02 W
Wind is light 8 kts from 278 degrees. Boat speed 6.0 heading 194 degrees. Baro steady at 1019
Today was difficult as I was headed comfortably to La Courna on a nice close reach when the Class II decision of a safe haven became Bayona. It is the correct location for many reasons, the main one that being south of Finisterre is alway a good idea and I was advised that it is easy to get pinned in La Coruna for more days than you want after the front has passed. So tonight its that familiar game of dodging fishing boat and high levels of shipping traffic as I slowly pass the infamous Cape.
I think we will all be later to Bayona than expected due to these light winds. But there is still a good 36 hours of clear weather before the window of opportunity to make safe haven is over.
