Captain's Log
November 18, 2002
Hello all,
So we are.....Class II is 26 days out of Bayona ( 30 days in total from Brixham ) in what we called, Leg 2.1. The sea routines are now second nature. We now when we are going to sleep, we know when our daily meals are going to be made, or should I say in my case, when I pour the hot water in the bag, mmmm. There is a special aroma in the boat that only the skipper could ignore. Our boats are all having a few problems that are not unusual for being at sea for this length of time and pushing them so hard. A little leak here, " I thought I had 2 genoa halyards not one ?? " , a balky autopilot or two and oops, I forgot to bring enough of " ( you fill in the blank ) " but for all of us except Brad Van Liew who is just keeping an eye out of his rear vision mirror, a game of Poker begins tonight or at the latest tomorrow as we make the decisions that will guide the tactics from here, to the approach to Cape Town.
There is the infamous South Atlantic High and it's moving our way, or we are moving its way. Each one of us has varying degrees of access to weather information and with that goes our varying ability to interpret it and make some key decisions. If we were all sitting around playing Poker at two tables right now, Derek and Tim at one and next to them Kojiro, John and myself, what cards would we play. I know I would be trying to see what Derek and Tim were doing and for sure not showing John and Kojiro my hand. So a Royal Flush, 4 of a kind or bust, no folding allowed, you must keep playing, even if you say ' I'll see your hand ' at the wrong time.
