Captain's Log
May 06, 2003
Hello all,
I am presently 108 nm to the ENE of Bermuda headed in a WNW direction and my closest point of approach to the island will be approx 50 nm to the north tonight around midnight local Bda time.
SO unfortunately I will not be able to glimpse home on the way to Newport, not unless Marine & Ports has turned up the power on Gibbs Hill Light !!! My recollection is that Gibbs Hill is visible for 23 nm at best.
Last night I experienced light NW winds that had the effect of making me sail due North and basically parallel to Bermuda. This morning a line of showers came through and the wind is now from the NNE at 8 - 10 kts in a bouncy sea with constant 30 degree wind fluctuations, making today's sailing a ' hands on ' experience to keep boat speed up.
Newport is 670 nm away and Sunday still looks good for arrival.
Back to the tiller.
Alan
