Captain's Log
March 27, 2003
Hello all,
The past 24 hours have been just perfect sailing conditions. 15 - 20 kts from the SSE allowing, even on the damaged side of the rig, for good speeds and in the right direction. This has come as an enormous relief as I was beginning to believe that Salvador was never going to get any closer.
Yesterday's mileage made good towards Salvador was 169 nm, the previous 5 days were 91 , 71, 89, 74 & 64 respectively. They were difficult headwind days or just no wind days. The present forecast looks like more of the same good conditions for today and overnight. Just the normal sunrise and sunset squalls to deal with. With 280 nm to go now I think this leg of the race may actually end !!!
Good thing as my wife Becky and son Tucker arrive in Salvador today.
