Captain's Log

March 21, 2003

Hello all,

Well this is the scenario I feared.

Winds are from the NNE at 18 - 22, seas are really lumpy and I am stuck on a port tack ( the good side of the rig ) headed into the middle of the Atlantic !! Of the 140 nm I have sailed in the past 24 hours only 65 have been towards Salvador. Worst thing is that its going to be like this for another day or more and I have no options but to wait it out. Tacking on the other side in these sea conditions would mean certain dismasting due the pumping of the mast and the slamming of the boat in these short steep waves.

This is not fun.

Alan
