With the boat type and designer chosen, then step is ‘ who is going to build the yacht? ’

A design can ‘ theoretically’ be built by any Boat Builder who follows the instructions of the designer; however, that is a very simplistic view of building an Open Class yacht and in reality, a builder must be proven and have constructed yachts able to challenge the extreme natural elements, that in the Around Alone race, can include 60 foot seas and hurricane force winds.

Jon Sayer of Allyacht Spars is such a builder. Jon Sayer is a solo sailor and yacht designer himself and has an excellent reputation of building strong, light and well thought out yachts. In fact during the construction process Jon has identified areas of refinement on the original design by communicating with Scott Jutson (Chief designer) to produce a yacht that will be the envy of the Around Alone fleet.

Construction has been by using a modified ‘female mold ’ that consists of laying a Divinycell foam core, Kevlar and E glass sandwich. Four watertight bulkheads and local re enforcement with Carbon fiber makes the execution of this design a truly world class yacht.
